Livotide Launch Seminar for Chinese Physicians Livotide, Xing Ling’s latest Scientific Chinese Medicine for the Liver, was launched to over 70 Chinese Physicians on the evening of 8 October 2006 at the Alumni Medical Center of the Singapore General Hospital. Guests watched a video recording of the origins and scientific development of Livotide, which is made from the alpine herb Herba Penthori Chinensis (扯根菜), also known as 赶黄草 or a “herb that chases away the ‘yellow’ of jaundice”. Herba Penthori Chinensis has been used for thousands of years by the Miao tribal people of the Sichuan region who drink it as a brewed tea. Significantly, it was discovered by scientists who were investigating the very low incidence of liver ailments amongst these native people, despite their preference for strong alcoholic beverages. Subsequently, numerous tests and clinical trials led to the link between Herba Penthori Chinensis and its liver protective nature. Today, Herba Penthori Chinensis has the honorable distinction of being China’s first geographically protected TCM, where it is allowed to be grown only in the unpolluted environs of China’s Wumeng Mountains, at elevations of between 1,800 to 3,000 meters. There is another good reason for this – the herb, if transplanted elsewhere, would not grow as well or have the same properties, because it needs the delicate balance of mineral-rich mountain streams, unique soil conditions and pristine air quality to flourish. Invited Chinese Physicians received a bottled water bearing the Livotide label, and a goodie bag containing a sample bottle of Livotide (90 capsules), the newly produced Livotide brochure, and a Livotide powerpoint print-out. Guests also had the chance to sample one of Xing Ling’s key soon-to-be-launched product – Gui Ling Ji Tonic Wine. Virtually all gave the thumbs up to the ancient longevity wine, which has been drunk by 18 generations of Chinese Emperors, commenting on its pleasant taste and illustrious history. Guests were then treated to a delicious buffet dinner. Then came the crux of the programme – an interesting seminar delivered by the General Manager of Sichuan Longlife Pharmaceutical Company, Dr Shao Hong. He was a practicing professor of Western Medicine at various Chinese hospitals for over 20 years before becoming GM of Sichuan Longlife. As such, his presentation of Livotide bore a distinct ‘westernised’ approach, as he explained the functions of the product in clear scientific terms. He also talked about the various studies that went into the scientific analysis of Livotide’s chemical composition, the results of successful human clinical trials and ended of with testimonials written by pleased (and cured) customers. The Question and Answer session reflected the high interest levels generated, as Dr Shao was inundated with numerous queries, especially on Livotide’s application in a range of clinical settings. Livotide comes in two packaging – 90 and 270 capsules per bottle. Following the seminar proper, Xing Ling’s sales and product manager Mr Philip Khoo presented Livotide’s pricing and bonusing, and announced a host of advertising and promotional activities lined up for the product, including newspaper advertisements, newspaper write-ups, sampling, brochures, patient leaflets as well as one-off discounts designed to attract new customers and raise the profile of the TCM profession as a whole. The event ended off on a high note with a Lucky Draw. The five prizes up for grabs were all alcoholic beverages paired with bottles of Livotide, to drive home the point of taking Livotide whenever one consumes alcohol, so as to maximize liver protection and minimize liver damage.
